A newer town with an old center
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020–2024 estimates) counts about 13,130 housing units in Kernersville. About 5,340 were built since 2000, and only about 1,050 before 1960. Just over half are single detached houses. The rest are townhomes and apartments, more than in most towns on our route.

Built before 1980 Newer
Kernersville's historic core is a different story. Körner's Folly on South Main Street was built in 1880, and the streets around downtown have older homes on crawlspaces that need the same termite and moisture attention as old High Point.
What Kernersville homes call about
In the newer subdivisions, ants are the most common call. Fresh mulch and irrigated beds against a slab suit them well. We also get a lot of termite questions from owners of 2000s homes whose builder pre-treatment has run out. Wooded lots and the yards near ponds in newer developments have mosquitoes, and houses backing onto woods get spiders on porches, decks and eaves.
